OASIS: Ontology as Structured by the Interfaces with Semantics

OASIS is an international research network based on the idea that there is a formal semantic ontology whose precise characterization is still to be discovered, not only through methods of model-theoretic semantics, but also through syntactic theory and cognitive psychology (the "interfaces with semantics"). By studying ontology in this way, we will deepen our understanding of the division of labor between language and thought. The network will found an annual conference of the same name.

We assume the following principles:

  1. There is a formal semantic ontology.
  2. Its relationship to grammar matters.
  3. Its relationship to cognition matters.
  4. Communication between diverse frameworks is worthwhile.
